Diversity Committee

The Diversity Committee is responsible for discussing and formulating motions on issues of prejudice and discrimination for Executive and Students’ Union Council.
The Committee’s objectives are:
• To campaign and raise awareness of Equal Opportunities related issues
• To monitor the awareness and effectiveness of the Equal Opportunities policies of the Union and University and make recommendations
• To provide feedback on any proposed projects, legislation or policies which may affect any under-represented groups within the membership
• To work with the Executive to suggest ways to widen participation in Student Activities
Over the summer, the committee has undergone a change. We have grown in order to enable the Students’ Union to get a more exclusive and diverse range of students’ views. In order to achieve this, we have included more Reps to the committee and have changed the names of a few posts.
There are 22 posts in total with 2 Reps from each area - these include:
• LGBT Rep x 2
• Women’s Rep x 2
• Part Time Rep x 2
• Post Grad Rep x 2
• Race Equality Rep x 2
• Home Students Rep x 2
• Student Parents Rep 2
• Mature Students Rep x 2
• International Students Rep x 2
• Students on Placements Rep x 2
• Students with Disabilities Rep x 2
The Diversity Committee will make recommendations to the Executive and Students’ Union Council in order to make a difference to the student experience. The Committee will meet at least 3 times per semester.
