Students' Union Executive

The Students' Union Executive Committee is elected by the student body to take responsibility for the day to day running of the Students' Union and carry out the instructions and policies of the Union Council.

Five elected Sabbatical Officers act as Trustees in SU financial matters and legal affairs. Nine elected non-sabbatical Officers represent specific groups to the overall Executive and carry out these duties combined with their studies.

The election of Executive Members usually takes place during February each year via a cross-campus ballot.

In order to run in these elections students need to pick up an election pack, which contains all the necessary nomination papers and regulations. These are available at each Union site. Students need to hold an NUS card and be a current student.

Students Union Council

What is Union Council?

The Student Union Council consists of student members from all over the University. The committee is made up of the school representatives, 8 members of the City Site Committee, 8 members of the Walsall Site Committee and 8 members of the Telford Site Committee, along with the Executive team.

What does it do?

The main purpose of Student Union Council is to hold the Executive team to account. The Executive submit a report of work and the Council will decide if it is adequate and meeting the needs of students. Policy is made at Council. For example last year the Welfare Officer put in a motion to ensure campaign work would be done each year for blood donation. This was passed at Council, and for the next 2 years the union is obliged to campaign on blood donation. Policy is what mandates us to carry out certain work. So why not become a part of it yourself and leave your mark on your Students’ Union.

Meetings of the Student Union Council are held (approximately) 3 times per semester.
