Operation Donation!

Hello, The Executive Team would like to introduce you to Operation Donation here at the Students’ Union. We felt that we really wanted to raise awareness of the problems that people have finding blood and organ donor matches. In fact, approximately 400 people die each year waiting and looking for donors. We will be promoting the National Blood Service at the Molineux on 5th November, right through the month to holding a charity 5-a –side football tournament on City Campus. The whole month’s activities are publicised so look out and take part.

We are aiming to educate students in an awareness campaign as to why it is important to be a donor, especially those in minority groups or with rare blood types. For example, less than 1% of registered donors are black and as a result finding a match is even harder.
According to BBC News “Research has shown that although 70% of the population are willing to donate, only 15% of the population have signed up to the NHS organ donor register.”
We are teaming this awareness campaign with what we usually call here at UWSU, “RAG” this is Raise And Give. It is now all “Donate” and under one umbrella. You can read about our chosen charities and support our fundraisers. We will also be selling badges and shopper bags at all Union buildings with proceeds going to our key charities.
