Cheating

Cheating is defined as any attempt by a candidate to gain unfair advantage in an assessment by dishonest means; for example, impersonating another candidate and breaching exam rules.

If you are caught cheating in an exam room by an invigilator, you can expect to be invited to a hearing, where the evidence against you will be presented. You will have an opportunity to put forward a case.

The penalties for cheating can often be severe, as it is relatively easy for the University to prove there is a deliberate attempt to gain an unfair advantage, espeically if you have breached examination rules. If you cheat in an exam, you can expect to have your award restricted to the one below the one you expect. If you're an honours degree student, you could be awarded an ordinary degree instead. For example, BSc (Hons) Psychology would become BSc Psychology WITHOUT a classifcation (e.g. 1st, 2.1, 2.2 or 3rd).
